Myths and Realities of Social Media Research
May 20th, 2013
According to Nielsen, in the U.S., over 121 billion minutes each month are spent connecting consumers across multiple social media sites. As marketers endeavor to engage their audiences through this medium, it is important to identify the fact from the fiction. Join the Chicago AMA Market Research SIG and the Marketing Research Association (MRA) on Monday, May 20th for a joint event featuring a two-part presentation on the myths and realities of social media research.
Biting the Hand and Bending the Rules- Social media research has generated such hype that clients can be overwhelmed with information, lack of information, and misinformation. Annie Pettit, Vice President of Research Standards at Research Now and Chief Research Officer at Conversition, will share examples of those problems and how they can be detrimental to your research. We’ll cover topics such as brand awareness, incidence, sentiment validity, spam, and other geeked-out topics.
Social Media Research 2.0 – What's Next? Most social media research today involves mining existing social media conversations. But some of the most groundbreaking and actionable new research methods involve deeper engagement with consumers on social media. Monika Wingate, CEO of Fountainhead Brand Consulting, will cover the next generation of tools, using real-world case studies on social media-based focus groups, ethnography, co-creation and online communities.

Authors Beata Zatorska & Simon Target
Rose Petal Jam
May 20th, 2013

Catalyst Ranch is proud to host Australian-based authors Beata Zatorska & her husband Simon Target during their U.S. tour. They will be in Chicago for only for one evening to talk about their first book Rose Petal Jam. Rose Petal Jam is a memoir cookbook and travelogue that chronicles author Beata Zatorska’s childhood in rural Poland, and includes her grandmother’s recipes for traditional Polish cooking. The book is their first of a series and was awarded the prestigious “Best in the World” prize at the 2012 Gourmand Awards. Their second book Sugared Orange is due out in September.
On the evening of May 20th, Beata will teach us some of her favorite recipes, walking us through the intricacies and special techniques involved in creating these traditional Polish recipes with the aid of Simon’s photographs. She’ll also share childhood stories as well as those that form the basis of the book. There will be a traditional Polish tea party with pastries, tea and coffee provided for tasting. Books will be available for sale and signed by the author.
All the proceeds from the evening will be donated to benefit the Dar Serca Foundation / Gift from the Heart Foundation.
If you have even a drop of Polish blood running through your veins, this is the book for you. If you just love Polish cooking, this is the book for you. Please bring friends and family to share this special evening and make some new friends who are fans of Poland and its heritage.
About the Authors:

Beata Zatorska was born in Jelenia Gora in southwest Poland and raised and taught to cook by her grandmother. She emigrated from Poland to Australia at age 19, where she completed her medical studies, graduating from the University of Sydney. Beata works as a family practice doctor in Sydney. Her fascination with medicine began during long mountain walks she took with her grandmother, who taught her the use of herbs and wildflowers in cooking and healing. Like many Poles who live in other countries, she has kept Poland in her heart over the years. When she finally returned, the first thing she did was leap into a wild rose bush to smell the petals – the scent of her Polish childhood.

Simon Target read English and Music at Cambridge University before studying at Britain’s National Film School. A well-known writer/director, he has directed television chefs and food writers such as Donna Hay, Curtis Stone, Kylie Kwong and Rick Stein among many others. The son of Australian landscape painter Pat Prentice, Simon lovingly photographed the country where Beata grew up.
About Dar Serca Foundation / Gift from the Heart Foundation:
Over the past 25 years, the Gift from the Heart Foundation has helped over 600 hundred children receive modern medical treatments from the highest quality clinics in the United States. For children from abroad, the Foundation provides help to seriously ill and handicapped children from Central and Eastern European countries where the medical treatment that they require may not be available. For local children, the programs are based on the philosophy that it really does “take a village to raise a child.” Through a variety of programs that promote education and awareness, healthy child development, family advocacy and support, and assistance to child medical care, the foundation strives to help parents residing on Chicago’s northwest side. Time Management for Misfits and Dreamers
June 13, 2013
Traditional Time Management is usually presented in terms of tools and techniques. Use a specific software application, or handle your paper inbox in a prescribed way, and you will get more done. This works for a certain subset of people who are handling very concrete and linear tasks, but for those of us who are knowledge workers, whose work is by definition creative or non-linear, these tools often break down. In fact, many brilliant people seem to be allergic to any form of time management at all, and find that their brilliance is lost in the chaos of missed deadlines and misplaced papers. They may feel like a "lost cause," but the truth is that no one has helped them to create an approach that values their creativity. In this workshop, knowledge workers and creatives will learn how to take charge of their time so that they can have more time to do what they love and realize more of their dreams.

Dave Kaiser has been guiding leaders to become extraordinary since 2004. His clients get increased confidence and productivity, greater reward and fulfillment, and less stress and heartache. Their organizations get better leadership, higher employee engagement, and reduced conflict and turnover, for bottom-line results.
