What makes some people charismatic?

Do you ever wonder what makes some people charismatic? Research has shown that people with charisma have similar nonverbal characteristics that they consistently display in their interactions with others. And not surprisingly these nonverbal behaviors lead to more positive perceptions of people in meetings, presentations and one-on-one interactions. One of the things that charismatic people do is use their eyes to make a strong connection with others. In order to make a strong connection you need to have at least 5 seconds of eye contact each time you look at a person. Five seconds is the length of time required to articulate a thought and it makes a strong impression on others regardless of whether it’s a one-on-one conversation or a presentation. It can also be an effective tool for highlighting something important. Directly looking at another person for 5 seconds while saying something important is one of the most effective ways to communicate confidence and credibility.

This month's precious pearl comes from our dear friend Anne E. Beall, Ph.D, a Researcher & Nonverbal Trainer. If you are interested in this or other nonverbal
issues, feel free to contact Anne Beall, at 312-384-1214 or email her at
